Keeping Our Martians Safe

Martian Families,

This week, we held our annual class meetings with each grade level and spent some time reviewing our school safety and emergency procedures. Students learned about a few minor changes connected to the District and countywide adoption of the I Love U Guys Standard Response Protocol, which provides schools, students, families, and first responders with consistent language and procedures during an emergency.

We also brought our entire student body together for an important school safety assembly featuring Lieutenant Rudy Lopez and our School Resource Officer, Deputy Jill Warden. Together, they reviewed our safety procedures and spent additional time discussing ALICE protocols and what students should know and do during a lockdown situation.

Lieutenant Lopez did a fantastic job connecting with our students and making a serious topic both understandable and engaging. I was also incredibly proud of our students. They were attentive, respectful, and engaged throughout the entire presentation and demonstrated the maturity we expect from our Martians.

As parents, we know that conversations about school safety can sometimes be difficult. I want to reassure our families that this week's conversations were proactive and were not in response to any specific safety concern at GHS. We believe one of the best ways to keep our students safe is to prepare them—not scare them. Our goal is for students to understand our procedures, know their options, and feel confident that the adults around them are prepared to respond should an emergency ever occur.

The safety of our students and staff will always be one of our highest priorities. We are grateful for the partnership of our families, District staff, and local law enforcement as we continue working together to make Goodrich High School a safe, welcoming place for every Martian.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership.
