GENESEE CAREER INSTITUTE

Senior and junior students in Goodrich High School have the opportunity to attend the Genesee Career Institute. The GCI offers a variety of vocational programs designed to train students for entry-level positions training at a higher level prior to entering the world of work. Participation at the career institute is limited. Consequently, students must apply to a specific program through the Counseling Office; the enrollment periods will be announced annually. A completed application is not a guarantee to attend skill center, but serves as intent to enroll. Other factors considered are grades, attendance, attitude, prerequisites, and recommendations. Most programs at the career institute are 2 years in length so participants must begin their studies at the start of their junior year, thus making a one or two year commitment depending on his or her selected program.
Bus transportation is provided to and from the GCI.
Please see your counselor for current programs. In their sophomore year, students should see their counselor to discuss information regarding the GCI.

SELECTIVE SERVICE
Almost all male U.S. citizens, and male immigrants living in the U.S., who are 18 through 25, are required to register with the Selective Service. It's important to know that even though he is registered, a man will not automatically be inducted into the military. In a crisis requiring a draft, men would be called in sequence determined by random lottery number and year of birth. Then, they would be examined for mental, physical and moral fitness by the military before being deferred or exempted from military service or inducted into the Armed Forces.
